Starting a business in [Year] is genuinely different from starting one in 2022. The tools are better, the barriers are lower, and the competition is more capable than it has ever been. AI has compressed the advantage that used to come from simply knowing how to do things — write clearly, build a basic website, design graphics, analyse data. What this means for new founders is that the starting point for every business has shifted, and so has where competitive advantage actually comes from.

If you can build a landing page in an afternoon using AI tools, so can every other person who wants to compete with you in the same space. If you can generate a content strategy in an hour, so can they. The tasks that used to require expertise and significant time investment have become fast and cheap for everyone simultaneously.

What has not become cheap: genuine relationships, specific domain knowledge, proprietary data, and a credible point of view developed through real experience. These are the things AI cannot copy from a prompt. They are also the things that compound in value over time rather than depreciating as tools improve.

Where Startups Are Actually Winning

The startups gaining real traction right now are using AI aggressively on execution — speed, output volume, cost efficiency — while competing on things AI cannot easily replicate. They are not trying to be general-purpose. They are going deep into a specific problem for a specific type of customer and becoming the best answer in that narrow space.

India’s creator economy alone is projected to top $1 trillion in annual spending by 2030, and similar vertical-specific growth stories are playing out across B2B software, health technology, and climate infrastructure. If you are starting something new, the question is not can I use AI to build this. The question is what do I know or who do I know that gives me an advantage in this specific market. Start there.
