Opera has launched a significant AI upgrade for its Android browser, introducing new features designed to enhance the mobile browsing experience. These updates bring Opera’s AI capabilities closer to those found in the desktop version, Opera One, which is available on iOS. The new features focus on improving user interaction with AI by allowing the browser to analyse files, images, and website content for more accurate results.

Key Features of the Opera AI Upgrade

  • New Ask AI Access Point: Opera for Android now includes an Ask AI button directly in the search bar. Users can easily switch between web search and AI queries by tapping the search box. This addition simplifies the process of switching between traditional browsing and interacting with AI without interrupting the browsing experience.
  • Attach Files for AI Analysis: The updated search bar allows users to attach files stored on their device or even capture images using the device camera. Once the file or image is uploaded, the AI can process it for tasks like translation, explanation, and follow-up questions.
    • To attach files:
      • Open the Ask AI interface.
      • Tap the “+” icon under the input field.
      • Choose a document, image, or take a new picture.
  • Webpage Context Support: Opera’s new AI upgrade also allows users to use the current webpage as context for their AI queries. This feature eliminates the need for users to manually re-enter information from the page.

  • To use webpage context:
    • Open any webpage in Opera.
    • Tap the three dots in the top-right corner.
    • Select the Ask AI option.
    • The webpage is automatically attached as context for the query.
  • Privacy and Data Handling: Opera ensures user privacy with a strong data protection policy. The AI can only access content from the specific tab being used and cannot view other browser data. All data sent for AI analysis is encrypted and deleted after 30 days. Opera assures that this data is not used for advertising or AI training.

Availability

The Opera AI upgrade is now available for Opera for Android users. Those who haven’t received the update can download it by updating their browser through the Google Play Store.
