I was recently reading a blog post about the ease of mobile blogging and stumbled across an interesting statistic – “Mobile devices now account for 25% of total media consumption time.”

In today’s world, it seems that our attention spans are getting shorter and shorter. We have more distractions than ever, from email to social networks to web pages that refresh every few seconds and it’s getting harder and harder to hold onto our audience.

Search engines are also making it increasingly difficult for people to even find your blog in the first place – the average number of bloggers has skyrocketed over the past several years, so how can you rise above all these distractions?

I think one way is by adding more interactivity to your blog content. By including interactive elements, you keep your readers engaged longer and make them more likely to share your content with their friends.

I was shocked when I read an article in the New York Times about how Interactivity Increases Engagement because I had always assumed that simply adding interactivity would not increase engagement or time on page. I thought the interactivity was the reason for increased engagement, not the resultant of it.

How To Create Super Engaging Blog Content

Blogging has become a popular way for website owners and marketers to build an audience and increase traffic. With more than 83 million blogs online as of 2015, there is no shortage of content. Unfortunately, many of these blogs receive little attention from readers.

By creating engaging blog content, you can compete with the best bloggers and provide content that your target audience is interested in.

1. Optimize Your Blog Content for Search Engines

One of the reasons many blogs don’t receive attention is because they aren’t optimized for search engines. Since most people use search engines to find information, make sure your blog posts are easily found based on important keywords. Your blog post title should contain keywords, and your content should include relevant keywords in the article’s URL.

2. Use Images in Your Blog Posts

There are two great reasons to use images in blog posts: they boost engagement and bring traffic. When you add an image to a blog post, it draws more attention than text alone.

While most people read blogs with images, about 44 percent read only the headlines and summaries of blog posts without images. You should add an image to your blog post even if you’re just sharing a link. The image will be displayed in search results and social media platforms.

3. Develop Engaging Headlines

When readers see your headline, that’s all they have to go on. If the content doesn’t match the headline, readers are likely to give up on your blog. While headlines are important for search engines, they are even more crucial for engaging readers.

An effective headline should be specific and include keywords that interest your audience. For example, if you’re blogging about adhering to a budget, make sure your headline uses words like “budget” or “saving money.”

4. Formatting Is Important for Blog Posts

If you want your blog content to engage readers, it will need to be formatted so it’s easy to read. Instead of using multiple paragraphs, consider using subheads to break up text. You can also use images and bulleted lists instead of paragraphs. Try making your blog posts more visually appealing with an attractive template.

5. Include Video Content on Your Blog

Video content can boost engagement and bring a lot of traffic to a new site, especially if the video is hosted by a popular platform like YouTube or Vimeo. You can create videos for your own blog or you can embed other people’s videos in your posts. Even if you don’t have a way to edit video, many bloggers use slideshows or screencasts.

6. Write Blogs with Personality

Make sure your blog is unique and authentic so readers will enjoy reading it. If you’re participating online, write like how you’d speak to someone face-to-face. Your readers will engage with blog content that feels like it’s coming straight from you.

You can even borrow other people’s ideas for your own posts, but make sure to give credit where it is due.

How Can You Make Interactive Blog Posts?

1. Tell a story with your blog post

I recently wrote an article about how storytelling can increase positive feelings in your audience. This includes stories of your own and stories you find in other blogs.

When we read a story we can more easily empathize with the main character of the story, which is why adding captivating storytelling to your blog posts increases engagement and time on page. The more engaged your readers are, the more likely they’ll be to share what they’re reading on social networks.

Here are a few ways you can tell an engaging story about your product or service.

Make it personal Emphasize customer benefits Mention “you” to create stronger connection with readers.

Use clear, vivid writing style Include real-life examples of success/failure Offer information in easily digestible chunks Link out to other stories as reference Include a mysterious element, such as an unanswered question Make it relatable to variety of people

2. Add images and videos

Blogging is primarily text-based, which means that readers skim rather than reading every single word on the page. Adding visual elements like images or videos will help to break up your content and make it easier for your readers to understand what you’re trying to convey.

Images are particularly useful because they can quickly show an example of something, rather than having the reader interpret text-based examples. Here’s an example at the beginning of my blog post about how images work better than words:

3. Use videos on landing pages

Videos are a great way to add interactivity to your site. In fact, according to this study from Brightcove , “95% of consumers want video on landing pages.”

The takeaway here is that you should seriously consider adding some videos onto the main page of your blog. You can also create a dedicated landing page for each post that includes a video.

4. Use interactive elements

One of the easiest ways to increase engagement on your blog posts is through interactive elements. This includes polls, slideshows, quizzes, puzzles, etc.

Personally, I think this kind of thing has been overdone in recent years and it’s hard to create an interactive element that doesn’t come across as cheesy. You can easily use something like Quiz Daddy or Google Forms to create your own quizzes and polls, which may be all you need to do to increase engagement.

Steps that you can take to Create Super Engaging Blog Content-

  1. Tell a story. Keep in mind that your readers are people who have busy lives, so they do not have the time to read long articles. If you can’t find ways to keep them engaged, they will leave your site without even realizing what happened. Storytelling is one of the best ways to make your article engaging.
  1. Use lists and quotes in your blog content.  Lists are helpful when you need to give details about several things in an organized manner. Quotes are also useful in breaking up text in case it becomes too long or monotonous. You can use either format on its own or combine both to make a more appealing blog post.
  2. Use data in your blog content.   This makes it easier for your readers to understand your point of view because you have used facts and figures from recent surveys or studies. You can also use data when you want to highlight the flaws in an opposing viewpoint, making your argument even stronger.
  3. Use rich media in your blog content.   These days, people prefer to watch videos or listen to podcasts when they have the time. You can use this to your advantage even if you don’t have a YouTube channel or a podcast production business , by using images and quotes from famous speakers.
  4. Connect with your readers.   Some bloggers prefer to leave their opinions out of their posts because they do not want people to think that they are being biased. But, you should always connect with your readers by sharing valuable information, instead of telling them how you feel about a certain topic.
